One of my favorite crafts is creating little worlds in a mason jar from fairy gardens to terrariums to even cemeteries for Halloween.

They are so much fun, and the kids can help make these as a fun crafts. Tweens and teens, who can safely use a glue gun, love these projects!

Faux Moss Stones from Dollar Tree

How do you make a dollar tree mason jar graveyard?

A close up of the top view of inside the mason jar with the tombstones.

Start with a pint-size mason jar. I have made these with both glass mason jars and plastic ones.

Lay a foundation of black rocks. I just add one layer.

Lay three moss rocks on top. You might have to use a chopstick to push them flat.

Fill in the holes with black gravel.

Add a few extra larger black rocks to fill in if needed.

Painting glitter glue onto the tombstones to give them sparkles.

Brush on some “sparkle” to each gravestone with glitter glue. I used silver on the gray one, gold on the beige one and silver on the purple one.

Add some glitter glue, if desired, to the black rocks for some added “spookiness.”

Hot gluing the tombstone to the moss stone.

Squirt some hot glue on the bottom of each grave stone and then attach each one to a different moss stone. It’s okay if they look a little wonky.

Adding the glue dot and tealight to the inside of the mason jar lid.

Add a glue dot the inside of the top of the lid and push the electronic tea light onto it. It’s easy to remove and put back to turn off and on.

Screw on the lid.

Now you have a spooky graveyard in a mason jar to put on the mantle or your tablescape.
