I have seen these Halloween eyeball ornaments every year at Dollar Tree. I just was there for a big stock up on health stuff like toothbrushes and hair stuff and saw the eyeball ornaments again.

What do you need to make Dollar Store Halloween Eyeball Jars?

You will need a few things:

  • Eyeball ornaments (at Dollar Tree)
  • Moss (Dollar Tree)
  • Black rocks (Dollar Tree)
  • Electronic Tea Lights (Dollar Tree)
  • Glue dots (Dollar Tree)
  • Mason jars (in plastic or glass) – Sometimes I can find these at the Dollar Tree, but I often find them at places like Dollar General and Family Dollar.

For added creepiness for the display also get:

  • additional electronic tea lights
  • plastic spiders/worms, etc.
  • creepy cloth
  • silver circle plate

How do you make Dollar Tree Halloween Eyeball Jars?

These jars are super easy to put together.

First, add about a 1-inch layer of black rocks to the bottom of the mason jar.

Then, add a 1-inch layer of moss on top of the rocks.

Collage with one image showing the inside of the mason jar with black rocks and green moss on top of it. The second image shows an eyeball ornament in a hand.

Next, place the eyeball ornament so that the top part of the ornament that sticks out goes down into the moss and is hidden. If you want to really secure it, you can add a dollop of hot glue to the top part of the ornament and push that into the moss to hold securely.

Add a glue dot to the center of the inside of the lid and stick the electronic tea light onto it. It’s easy to pull the light off and on the glue dot, so you can turn it on and off.

Screw the lid on and your eyeball jar is ready!

I like to make 3 jars with different colored eyes.

To decorate the mantle or a niche:

  • Drape a gray creepy cloth down and add small skeletons, bugs, spiders, etc. around it.
  • Add 3-5 electronic tea lights around the creepy cloth.
  • Lay the metal mirrored plate down in the middle of all this and set the mason jars around the plate.
  • Decorate the plate with some added moss, extra rocks, and additional bugs and creepy things.
